About Joseph

Joseph (Joe) Averkamp, Parsons VP, Systems and Solutions, has nearly 30 years of experience in technology assessment and development, market analysis, business development and strategy, and project management and delivery. Most recently, he worked as a Chief Technology Lead of Tolling and Intelligent Transportation Systems for a leading provider of diversified business process services. He offers expertise with technologies including wireless, GPS, tolling sensors, and telematics and automatic electronic systems. He has extensive experience designing and launching systems including intelligent transportation and tolling, automotive electronics, and wireless voice and data.

He helped to develop and grow a connected, autonomous vehicle practice and an intelligent transportation systems practice for a large management consulting firm. Most recently, Joe spearheaded the development and launch of a vehicle passenger detection system, a leading system for high occupancy vehicle detection and occupancy counting.

Joe holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and mathematics from the University of Wisconsin. Joe has served on the ITS America Board of Directors, and the USDOT Federal Advisory Committee for ITS. He works from his home in Virginia.
